Is that a rain coat?

“There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable… I simply am not there.”
-Patrick Bateman

Just when you thought that Broadway couldn’t get any more gruesome, three  companies (David Johnson, Craig Roessler and Jessier Singer of The Johnson-Roessler Co., Aaron Rat of the Collective and Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films) have been recruited to write the script and score for American Psycho the Musical. Slated to be the next Sweeney Todd, American Psycho the Musical will slice it’s way into the hearts of millions.

Producers claimed that the current financial crisis was the inspiration for this bloody thriller stating “Now in particular it seems relevant, especially given what’s happening on Wall Street.” Writer Bret Easton Ellis and director Mary Harron have also been confirmed as consulting producers on the project.

Virtually banned from shelves during it’s release in 1991, this violent gore-fest received cult status on the silver screen with Christian Bale playing Patrick Bateman in 2000. Although a release date has yet to be set for this production, as it is still in it’s infancy, audiences should be on the lookout for American Psycho tickets when they’re released.

If you’ve pored over the cadaverous details of the book and read chapters entirely devoted to the finer aspects of 80’s music, then you can guess what the score will be like. Will they hack away at jazzed up versions of Whitney Houston or knick their chainsaws into industrialized versions of Huey Lewis and the News? It’s anyone’s guess, but it’s pretty evident that once they go on sale, American Psycho tickets will be gone like a kittie at an ATM machine. Or a bartender at a posh night club? Or maybe a laundromat owner who just can’t understand what you’re saying…
